Brief
The Carbon Zone, developed for Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), was designed to promote sustainability, environmental awareness, and carbon footprint reduction through an innovative and interactive visitor experience.
The objective was to create a distinctive educational environment combining custom-built themed installations, immersive digital technology, interactive activities, creative storytelling, and integrated audiovisual experiences to communicate the importance of sustainable living.
Insight
Environmental awareness becomes more impactful when visitors can actively engage with sustainability concepts rather than simply observe them.
By transforming complex environmental topics into interactive challenges, visual storytelling, and hands-on experiences, the Carbon Zone could make carbon reduction, energy conservation, and sustainable practices more accessible, entertaining, and memorable for visitors of all ages.
The Idea
We envisioned the Carbon Zone as an immersive sustainability journey where interactive technology, imaginative environments, and educational entertainment inspired visitors to explore a greener future.
The experience featured futuristic interactive stations, including a custom-built Time Machine and Carbon Reducer installation, designed to introduce environmental concepts through engaging digital interactions.
A distinctive geodesic dome environment with curved projection displays, interactive touchscreen stations, and illuminated pathways created a visually engaging setting for digital storytelling and sustainability awareness.
Every installation was designed to combine creativity, technology, and education, transforming environmental messages into memorable visitor experiences.
3D Carbon Film in the Dome
A 3D film synchronized across a giant 360° dome, showing how much carbon each step of daily life produces. The film's script, visuals and audio are all Harikalar productions.
Three Screens + Hologram Score
Children answer daily life questions on three screens. Their answers feed live into the giant hologram at the next station, where the class's shared footprint becomes visible in real time.
3D Classic Qatari House
Answers light up across a 3D classic Qatari house: green correct, yellow needs work, red wrong. The child touches their mistakes, learns the right answer and lowers their own score with their own hand.
Time Machine — 2030 Portrait
A face-tracking camera descends from above to match the child's height and takes a photo. Based on the child's answers, they see themselves aged in 2030 Qatar — and walk away with the photo, sent digitally.
Execution
The project brought together complete creative concept development, custom fabrication, themed environment production, interactive technology integration, multimedia installations, and technical execution.
The futuristic Time Machine and Carbon Reducer stations featured custom-built structures, illuminated platforms, integrated digital interfaces, and distinctive architectural detailing, creating recognisable interactive attractions.
Within the dome environment, curved projection screens, digital animations, interactive touchscreens, and illuminated visitor pathways established an immersive educational setting.
From 3D design and structural fabrication to digital integration, lighting installation, and on-site execution, every component was carefully coordinated to deliver a cohesive and engaging sustainability experience.
